Blocked Out interview...
evrythngscks: alright, duder. go ahead and state your name and what you do in blocked out.
rob: i'm rob bev and i write the lyrics.
rob: then there is marcos who plays drums
rob: jaime and rob who play guitar
rob: and austin who plays bass
evrythngscks: you dudes have a demo out. what can you tell me about it?
rob: we recorded it a little over a month ago, after we had done a couple shows, with alex estrada at earth capital in downtown LA. it basically is just the first 7 or so songs we wrote, and we wanted to have somthing out for out trip north in July.
evrythngscks: you have a pic of, what appears to be, todd jones of carry on/betrayed/various other bands fame in your influences section on the bands myspace page. is there a backstory behind this or is the band just literally influenced by todd himself?
rob: haha. i just put that up about 5 minutes ago. I saw it on a message board, and i was at the show. It was actually last night. Anyways, It's not a joke, or to put down todd, because he is an awesome guitarist, and pretty much all of his bands are bands I really enjoy. So I think it's more so saying that his bands are an influence, but it's also a joke if you will, but not a real joke, since we've heard storys of Todd getting offended by stuff. But one of our biggest influences deffintly is Carry On. Alex the dude who we recorded with told us he is recording Todd's new band (Nails, as it was called by the Creatures dudes.), and it should be really rad.
evrythngscks: you guys have a nice amount of cali shows booked. plan on playing out of state at all this year?
rob:we are in the process of hopfully setting up an east coast week with an awesome band, like the mongoloids. it's a work in progress. I'm sure we will do Oregon and Washington when our time comes. I've always wanted to play Bremerton, Washington at the Tiki House.
evrythngscks: so why the name blocked out?
rob: well when you create a band, or atleast for me, i've always wanted to have a name that reflected what our sound/lyrics would be like. blocked out just happened to be the first thing i thought of, like "blocked out from the world" or somthing. I've brought up the fact that another name would be cooler, like some jems we've had; Collapse, Tensions Between, etc. It's kinda like naming a kid, you are stuck with it for life, especially after you play some shows, there is no going back. I think it really does reflect my lyrics though, so no complaining.
rob: it's also a qoute in star wars.
evrythngscks: best show so far. go.
rob: hmmmm
rob: i watch alot of E!
rob: but i would say i enjoy
rob: ummmm
rob: it's always sunny in philidelphia
evrythngscks: haha. love that show.
evrythngscks: buuuut i meant best blocked out show so far.
evrythngscks: haha.
rob: oh haha my bad
rob: they have all been great, i would go with A) the hellfish wharehouse with rotting out/masterpiece, or a garage show we did a couple weeks ago in anahiem, where Riley (from Thought Process) and myself almost got the shieeeeet beet out of us. It was a packed to the max garage. Was awesome. But I still stand by It's Always Sunny in Phili.
evrythngscks: sick.
rob: ALWAYS
evrythngscks: best wwf wrestler?: a)mankind / b)steve austin / c)the undertaker
rob: stone cold steve austin. always.
rob: stone cold was another possible name for this band.
evrythngscks: CORRECT!
evrythngscks: change the name to stone cold.
evrythngscks: NOW.
rob: haha
rob:uber alles.
evrythngscks: final words?
rob:thanks alot for doing the interview! and that more people should do legit zines like this (and Blackdog.) We are leaving for a Nor Cal weekend July 10th-13th and that more people need to start going to the REAL shows and support touring bands.
Thanks Joseph!
